It all starts with a need.

  • Need it.

It all begins, like most ideas, with a need. The concept of a family office was once only the terrain of the uber wealthy, who sought to manage and grow their complex network of holdings, through a complicated maze of fiscal and financial constraints.

  • Build it.

It seemed like there was an ‘in-between,’ a vastly underserved market of successful people who needed the valuable services a family office could provide, without the expensive and onerous overhead often needed to provide those services.

  • Grow it.

Sestri Capital grew out of a multi-year exploration of how to find the perfect balance between lifestyle needs, portfolio growth and fiscal optimization. The concept was simple, the vast benefits that a family office structure can provide can be achieved without the necessity of a billionaire’s bank account. Call it the democratization of the family office concept.

The inspiration.

There is an old adage that achieving success is the easy part. Keeping it is another story.

Over the years, alongside building a professional career path, I had to build an individual path as well.

I was always fascinated by the those who achieved work-life balance, who seemed to have a fulfilled life that provided enough for themselves and their families, without sacrificing their dreams and passions.

I often found it frustrating to not have the time to manage my stock portfolio, my private equity investments, my real estate holdings, my insurance needs, my personal accounting, and optimizing my tax and fiscal situation.

The concept.

It felt very rare to meet the person who had mastered integrating all these elements without a swat team of experts. Even if they had these elements, it was a laborious task to continually have all of these moving parts constantly in communication.

The global pandemic, with all the misfortune it caused, gave me the benefit of time to explore this idea. I would be my own case study, formalizing the concepts and ideas I would often advise friends on.

Equally inspired by Bill Perkin’s book Die With Zero, I set out to create an optimal integrated financial picture for my family assets, while seeking out the real rate of returns I was most interested in… life. And the returns on experience it can provide.
